What should I expect when I contact a builder?

If you know exactly what you want, convey that to the builder.  If you are looking for options, a good builder can give suggestions which can improve upon your original design plan.  The best results are obtained when you have open communication with the builder

How long will my project take to complete?

The answer to this question is related to the size of the project.  Regardless, your builder should be able to give you an estimated starting date as well as an estimate as to the finish date.  Please keep in mind that changes to the project and material availability may change those dates.  If you know exactly what you want, convey that to the builder.  If you are looking for options, a good builder can give suggestions which can improve upon your original design plan.  The best results are obtained when you have open communication with the builder. What should I expect when I contact a builder?

Can I make changes to the plan after it is started?

You can make changes to your project at any time however you must take into consideration the possible additional costs involved.  The timing of the change is usually directly related to the cost of the change.  If changes happen in the planning stages, there is little cost other than the differences of materials and labor involved.

What questions should I ask if comparing builders?

Questions can vary from project to project but there are some you should always ask.

Is the builder fully insured?  Are their certifications up to date?

Do they have some references or can you view some past similar projects.

What grade materials will be used?  Quality materials cost more but many times are worth the investment.
